Reading assignments: Introduction (10/02/1998)
In contrast to all subsequent meetings, there will be NO student presentations
for the simple reason that student groups have not yet been
formed. (This will
be done at the first meeting.) Instead we have two lectures.
However, to give you a flavor of some of the issues that will be discussed
we assign the following reading material:
- Van der Hilst et al., Evidence for deep circulation from global tomography,
Nature, vol. 386, p. 578-584, (April 10) 1997.
- Masters, Tracking slabs in the lower mantle, Nature (News
and Views), vol 386, p. 558, 1997.
- Levi, B. G., Earth's upper mantle: How low can it flow?, Physics Today, vol.
50, p. 17-20, 1997.
